Sweets: Sweet Heart Zelda Cupcakes

Sweet Heart Zelda Cupcakes by Geek Sweets

These cupcakes are made with red velvet batter and feature white icing with a very old-school 8-bit heart topping it. No characters are actually featured on the yummy creation itself, but fans of the game will recognize the design in an instant. To drive home the theme of the goods, the box features heavily pixelated depictions of characters saying quotes from the game, which pair incredibly nicely with the sweet delectable cupcakes.

The visitor enters a “Universe of Particles”. Spherical exhibition units are composed to a content-generated room narrativ. They offer a variety of possibilities for information and interaction, target-group-specific and thematically prepared. The highlight of the staged free-flow exhibition is a multimedia-based, dynamic spatial experience making the big bang as a phenomenon tangible. The exhibition space becomes an exhibit itself."

This forty meter long, three meter high mural covers the first floor walls of Japan's tallest structure, Tokyo Sky Tree tower, which opened its doors May 22nd.  The mural captures the fine details of the surrounding city, including the Asakusa Kannon temple, the home of sumo wrestling in Ryogoku, the Tsukiji fish market, and the Ueno Zoo in a style reminiscent of edozubyoubu, traditional Japanese folding screens of the Edo period.

Sculpture: Typographic Sphere

"My first artist’s book.

A book as an artwork, an artwork as a book.

The brief stated that we should shape our artistic vision in the form of an artwork. This piece of art should have its origin in the book. Inspired by the arts and craft movement as well as the Bauhaus functionalism, I created my own kind of art tool. The painter has his brush, the carpenter his hammer, I have my typographic ball. This piece is the start of a much bigger project where I will build a series of typographic spheres, and use these to make books with unique prints."

Sculpture: Reclaimed Creations

Ganz was deeply impacted as a child by Japanese Shinto beliefs that all objects and organisms have spirits, and was also taught that objects discarded before the end of their usefulness “weep at night inside the trash bin.” As her artistic side developed, she infused her artwork with these beliefs, using discarded and reclaimed household objects as a medium for her sculptures.

Street Art: Banksy on the Olympics

While there's reported been a serious crack down on taggers in London in the run up to the 2012 Olympics, it seems like they just can't suppress Banksy.  The master street artist has commemorated the upcoming events with two new, politically-charged pieces. As always, he's incorporated the surroundings into his pieces beautifully.

Lego Creation: Apollo 11 Tribute

"On July 21st, 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon. This creation commemorates this great historical accomplishment.

After seeing Tyler's astronaut some time back, I knew immediately I wanted to do something similar with this piece. Plus I recently acquired 100 of these awesome pieces. As a spacer myself, I feel we often times get caught up in building magical sci-fi creations, and forget to pay tribute to the original roots. I'd love nothing more than for humans to get back out into exploring other celestial bodies!
This creation can be viewed in the Community Window for the next month at the Chandler, Arizona Lego Store. I know you all want to come make a trip out and come see in this lovely 112 degree heat! ;)"

Installation: Vivid Memories

“Vivid Memories” by Shotopop and Ogilvy & Mather Düsseldorf

This installation is an Alzheimers awareness campaign that won us a Silver Award at the 2012 European Design Awards in Helsinki and a Bronze for Graphic Design at the ADC Awards in Germany. It features a “brain” in four segments containing the memories of a lifetime. 95 individual scenes were illustrated, and then connected in the shape of a brain. The images start at a birth, and follows a lifetime worth of memories, some personal, some moments from history. The final illustrations were laser-cut and painted, and then hung up in several spaces over Germany, with an interactive Facebook app that continues the campaign online.

Fresh Take: The King of Cooks

"Last week, Paul Comstock, editor and founder of The California Literary Review, asked me to create an illustration for each of their weekly Breaking Bad recaps. Naturally I said yes within seconds.

The recaps post the day after the episode airs, so I have to anticipate the plot based on whatever teasers I can find and create an illustration ahead of time. It's an interesting creative challenge, and I'm looking forward to seeing how my ideas match up to the episodes after the fact.

Since the last season ended with Walt as the new meth King, I based my composition on playing card layouts and used the double-view as an opportunity to highlight his transformation from Season 1 to Season 5.

Read the recap here and check back next week to see my illustration for Episode 2."
